Location
Symonds Yat is a designated area of natural beauty and scenery,
which attracts many visitors during both the summer and winter months.
There is an abundance of wildlife around including: deer, birds (kingfishers,
peregrine falcons), bats, fish, plus otters have recently been sighted.
There are also a variety of activities available locally including:
canoeing, abseiling, fishing, cycling, golfing, and shooting.
Yat means gate or gorge, which was thought as the gateway between England
and Wales.
The area takes its name from Robert Symonds, the High Sheriff of Herefordshire
and local landowner during the seventeenth century.
Men and horses pulled barges on the tow path at the side of the river,
which carried traffic from the Bristol Channel inland, coal from the
Forest of Dean and iron from the smeltings.
Hand Pulled Ferry
50 yards from the Cottages, the ferry will take you across the river
to the local village pub. Other selection of Pubs and Restaurants close
by within walking distance.

Local Village Whitchurch ½ mile (Post Office, Bus Stop&
Pub)
Ross on Wye (6 miles), Monmouth (4 miles), Hereford (17 miles). Easily
reached by car are the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Malvern Hills,
Hay on Wye, Leominster, Ledbury & South Wales
